Burnhead is in a wonderful spot for making the most of your break whatever your interests. Although it is a great area for those who enjoy walking there are many more leisurely activities to happily fill your days. It goes without saying that you will want to visit the historical sites of Hadrian's Wall, Rome’s northernmost frontier. The Wall has been awarded World Heritage Site status and is of tremendous interest.

Walking is obviously a very popular pastime and Burnhead is ideally placed for local walks and for exploring more of the beautiful Northumberland countryside, its hills, valleys, forests and lakes. We are also well placed for walking in the Lake District hills.

If you are a climber then there are some local, challenging crags that are very popular with local climbers.

Burnhead is on the route of the new Hadrian's Wall Cycle Route and there are numerous good local routes for all cycling enthusiasts.

If you like beaches then you are spoilt for choice. The Northumberland coastline from Warkworth to Holy Island in the north is quite spectacular, with its castles, dunes, fishing villages and island bird sanctuaries.

Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland and Harry Potter, also boasts its magnificent water gardens with their fountains and cascades.

If fishing is your hobby there is some fine local fishing, both river and lake.

There are some very interesting historical sites to visit including Hexham Abbey, Durham Cathedral and Beamish Open Air Museum.
